Gal-Gone-Camping

Cummins Ferry Resort Campground & Marina–Salvisa, KY

Hello Friends,

Greetings from Cummins Ferry Resort Campground & Marina in Salvisa, KY!

Where is Salvisa you ask?  I had never heard of it either, and I’m from KY!  I discovered this place while searching for a campground near Danville, where my son was living at the time.  I thought I had pretty much stayed at all the campgrounds in that area, but somehow missed this one.

                                                        The star attraction!

Cummins Ferry Resort Campground http://www.cumminsferry.com located on the Kentucky River.  Once you turn off U.S. RT. 68, it is in the middle of nowhere at the end of a road at the bottom of a hill.  What a find!  The first thing you see and hear is the beautiful double stream waterfall cascading into the river from the sheer rock facing or palisades, as they are called.

                                               Campground entrance

The marina part is simply a covered boat dock where boaters passing by can stop and take in the falls; as they are located directly across from the dock.  There is a camp store in the office where campers and boaters can purchase supplies.

Boat ramp, kayakers and great view of the awesome rock palisades and Kentucky River

The campground is privately owned and is a ‘gated community,’ which really makes one feel safe.  You pay a $10 deposit for a gate card which is refunded to you when you check out and return the card.  If you have guests visit you that are not camping, there is a charge of $3 per person.  This is a quiet campground and a good place to relax.

There are several permanent or seasonal campers that occupy the riverfront portion of the campground with large RV’s that serve as vacation/weekend homes.

Clean, inviting pool. My handsome son in the background!

Amenities include a pool, playground, camp store, WiFi, pavilion, shower/restroom and laundry facilities.  Boating and fishing are popular activities on the river, and there are a couple of trails, but the main attraction here is the that awesome waterfall!

Another camping adventure for Etta Mae II!

This area is rich in history and there are several interesting things to see and do nearby such as Old Fort Harrod State Park, Camp Nelson Civil War Park and National Cemetery, Pioneer Playhouse, Constitution Square, several wineries and more.  The rock palisades along the river are an attraction themselves.  Perpendicular sheer rock walls rise 300-400 feet out of the river and are a geological wonder.

My family had a great time here!

This is Daniel Boone country!  To see the Kentucky River and the palisades; knowing it is the same sight the famous explorer and Native American tribes such as the Shawnee saw hundreds of years ago is awe-inspiring.

                          Living it!

Until next time…Don’t Wait To Live!

See ya down the road….
