Gal-Gone-Camping

Following DB on the Sheltowee Trace, Technical Nightmares, SOTF Fun, Contest & More!

Hello Friends!

Well, we are nearing the halfway mark into 2021! How can that be?? You know time is not actually speeding up; guess we’re just slowing down–at least I am.  I’m finding it harder and harder to keep up!  I hope you all are well and have enjoyed the beautiful spring weather (is starting to get hot now!) Words cannot express how happy I am to see winter GONE!  My goal was to be barefoot by March, and I was!

On the Sheltowee Trace in the Daniel Boone National Forest

Sheltowee Trace & Daniel Boone National Forest

You’ve heard of “pushing the envelope” right? Well, I’m always pushing the season! (although some would say I “push the envelope” too!) LOL, I reckon I do.  Anyway, I took advantage of one of January’s pretty days and hit part of Kentucky’s longest trail–the Sheltowee Trace!  That has been on my list for a long time, and though I got to hike just a short section of it, it was awesome, and I hope to do more of it later.

When you saw DB in the title, did you think of DB Cooper?  I am fascinated with him and that whole mystery! Getting out to Washington and searching for his money is definitely on my bucket list!  Here, I’m talking about a different DB…Daniel Boone!  Named for Kentucky’s hero and one of mine, the 300+ mile national recreation trail runs through the Daniel Boone National Forest, all the way to the Big South Fork National River area in TN!  Find out the meaning of Sheltowee, as well as what my Shawnee name could be by clicking here: https://youtu.be/Hsii1WSzDlo

Imagine all that happened here during Daniel Boone’s day…

In the video I mention all the fallen trees on the trail and said some could be remnants of the 2012 tornado; but that we hadn’t had an ice storm in that area since 2009…Little did I know that in just a few short  weeks, we would have a winter/ice storm that would go down in history for eastern KY!

Other Great Attractions

The Sheltowee portion I hiked was in the Morehead, KY area.  While in Morehead, home of my college alma mater, be sure to check out some of the cool spots in town such as the Fuzzy Duck Coffee Shop and All Seasons Cafe.  Also visit/camp Cave Run Lake, the largest in eastern KY.  Many other great attractions lie in and around this section of the Daniel Boone National Forest, such as Snug Hollow B&B in Irvine, as well as Natural Bridge State Park and Red River Gorge in Slade, where rock climbers come from all over the world to scale those geologic wonders.

Technology Terrors!

May has been very busy for me y’all!  I’m playing catch up here; have been covered over with about 10 things going at one time!  As you probably noticed, there has not been a new blog post or YouTube video in a while.  That’s because I’ve been technically tormented; living a computer nightmare for about two months!  First it was an issue with video editing software, then my website host/server had a couple major ongoing problems that took forever to correct.  I think all that has been resolved now.  I hope so, because I was just about to lose my mind! So sorry for the lapse in time with the blog and YouTube channel.

Horsin’ Round The Bluegrass With SOTF

April found me and ‘Little Ett’ camped at Whispering Hills RV Park in Georgetown, KY at a Sisters-on-the-Fly event. It was so good to see those gals again and meet some new sisters!

Me and ‘Little Ett’ camped at Whispering Hills RV Park

SOTF gals have the most fun and…”we will make you kindly welcome!”

Our ‘Horsin’ Round the Bluegrass‘ SOTF chapter made up for last year’s cancelation with lots of dancing, good food and beverages, laughing, talking, catching up with each other, and side trips–one of which was to a quaint, rural area called Nonesuch, KY, where the elegant Irish Acres Antique Gallery and The Glitz restaurant live.

Just one room inside Irish Acres Antique Gallery!

It’s all Glitz at Irish Acres!

OMG! If you have not been here, you need to go!  This 3 story, former school, brick beauty is jam-packed with antiques, collectibles, and unique pretties of every kind.  When I say jam-packed–I mean literally, there is something stunning in every nook and cranny.  I felt like I was inside a treasure chest with all the bling, glitter and glam–guess that’s why they call the restaurant which is housed in the basement, ‘The Glitz!’  I never saw no basement like this y’all!…and the food…wow! You just gotta go!

How’s this for a basement?

The ‘Nonesuch Kiss’–signature dessert at The Glitz!

I purchased my souvenir–a bottle of their Spiced Apple Refresher, which was one of the beverages served for lunch.  I love something I can use! LOL!  It is delicious as is,  but I’m thinking paired with a jag of Fireball, it would make a very flavorful cocktail–like liquid apple pie!

My souvenir!

After a feast for the eyes and the belly, I was ready for a nap.  The weather was cool and just right for snuggling up under warm blankets in my cozy bunk and reading a book until I fell asleep.  I have come to the conclusion that this is definitely the life for me y’all!

Nap time!
